Site Visit: Bluewater Shopping Centre
Fourteen SPR Members can book this retail site visit kindly hosted by Landsec.
During this visit you will hear interesting facts about the shopping centre and its history, how the centre has evolved over its 19 years and how it continues to evolve. There will be a talk on demographics, changing retail and consumer trends and how the asset management team use this to optimise the tenant-mix. You will gain an insight into what it takes to run leading shopping and leisure destinations and the tools used to gather information on their customer.
About Bluewater
Bluewater opened its doors on March 16, 1999 and has continued to evolve ever since. Concepts are continually updated to remain current. Shopping centres have become shopping and leisure destinations, and Bluewater hosts 300 stores, over 50 bars, restaurants and cafes along with 13,000 free car parking spaces. Landsec manage a site that is 240 acres is surrounded by a 50-acre landscape of lakes, parkland and trees. The shopping centre has a triangular design with a flagship store at each point – Marks & Spencer, John Lewis and House of Fraser – and is spread over two levels. In-between the 3 ‘anchors’ are distinct shopping areas and a leisure and a dining area.
This site visit has kindly been arranged by Landsec who manages the property and owns 30%, with other shares held by Lend Lease Retail Partnership, M&G Real Estate, GIC, Royal London Asset Management and Aberdeen Asset Management.
