2026 is a Business Rates Revaluation year that has driven significant change in property values and how liabilities are calculated; many ratepayers faced material movement in their liabilities from 1st April with limited warning. Like a good political thriller the process has been drawn out, unpredictable with at least one U-turn; for ratepayers, this core property cost has become more complex and for many more expensive.

This session will explore the background to business rates and the Revaluation, how values and liabilities have moved and what’s next in the journey for this controversial property tax.

Bruce Wilson, Head of Business Rates - Commercial, Senior Director, BNPP Real Estate Advisory and Property Management 
With over thirty years’ experience in Business Rates, Bruce started his career in the Valuation Office before working as an in-house expert across some of the UK’s most complex rating portfolios (including Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports and the UK’s largest ratepayer Tesco Stores) and more recently as a consultant in the UK’s largest consultancies.

Bruce brings a unique insight into the corporate perspective and technical aspects of this complex and controversial UK property tax, often called upon to examine and respond to Government and industry initiatives.
