Affordable Housing: Investing with Impact

The UK’s housing shortage, especially acute at the affordable end of the spectrum, is a topic we are all familiar with.

The significant requirement for new affordable housing requires funding, and institutional investors should be able to play a role in filling this funding gap. Yet reading the press it seems that private investment into affordable housing has not been uniformly well received. Why is this and how is it changing? This session will provide an introduction to the UK affordable housing sector; including how institutional investors can help housing associations achieve their goals, and how this can deliver a positive social impact. During this session we will hear short presentations on the affordable housing sector from three different perspectives; a housing association, investment manager, and social impact investor. Following that, our speakers will discuss common misconceptions, lessons learnt from investment so far, and how institutional investors can maximise their social impact.
