Brian Waldy recently stepped down as Secretary General of the Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy (CASLE) after eleven years. He is still involved with CASLE, representing the association on the UN-Habitat Professionals Forum. Through CASLE and the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG), where he was Chairman of the Technical Commission on ‘Valuation and the Management of Real Estate’ for four years, he has organised conferences, given papers and chaired plenary and technical sessions at events around the world since 1990.

He started in property research in 1980, after qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor and barrister, and set up research departments in two Central London firms of surveyors. Later he also qualified as an investment analyst.

Over the years he has done research and consultancy for a number of national and international bodies, including, inter alia, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

He has also devised and run education and training courses for various academic and professional organisations. He has been a member of the editorial boards of two referred journals. He was for many years the Chairman of the RICS Education Trust and is the current Chairman of the RICS Foundation.  

In 1987 Brian was the founding Chairman of the SPR and chaired the new society for its first three years.
