DATA PROTECTION POLICY FOR THE SOCIETY OF PROPERTY RESEARCHERS

The Society of Property Researchers (SPR) is registered with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO Ref No Z7207946). It is mindful of the current regulations regarding data protection, including The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in effect from 25th May 2018.

Type of Data Collected
The data kept on file for each member is taken primarily from the Membership Application Form and includes name, job title, employer, employer’s address, telephone/mobile number.   Further updates on personal data may come from the individual, or from notifications on such sites as LinkedIn and the property press.  Such changes will be verified by the individual concerned before the data is updated.

What is the data used for?
The data collected from the Membership Application Form is stored on the Society’s website and used by the Membership Secretary to circulate upcoming events, job alerts, committee updates and training courses.

Who can access the data?
Apart from the SPR Membership Secretary, the data is also accessible to other SPR members via the Members’ Directory section of the SPR website, whilst they are active members and are logged into the private area.

Where (and for how long) is that data being stored?
The data is collected from membership application and stored until the individual membership has lapsed.  Inactive members’ data at present is available to the Membership Secretary but there will be an option to delete this from the database upon application from the member.

Where is that data being collected and used and where does it go?
The data is collected on the SPR website for use by the Membership Secretary to circulate SPR emails and for access to members via a login method.  The data remains on the ASI server based in the UK, SPR’s website host.

Why is it being collected and used?
The data is collected to ensure applicants are eligible to join Society of Property Researchers and used for circulation and historical data analysis purpose.

To opt out, please contact the SPR Membership Secretary, [email protected].  Please be aware that this might prejudice dissemination of information that will be beneficial to members.  Please be aware that it is also a requirement to keep a list of those who choose to opt out.

It is a member’s responsibility to ensure that personal data held on file is kept up to date, by contacting the SPR Membership Secretary with any changes as soon as they occur.
